Léo Dirringer, Virose - 2022

Item # 51159 750 mL

A dry and aromatic white that displays all of the hallmarks of Gewürztraminer. Aromas of tropical fruit, sweet spice, and herbs are highlighted by the 5 day skin contact during fermentation. With a slight tannic structure, this will pair well with liver quenelles.

Staff Pick Notes

Leo Dirringer is the 4th generation of a wine growing family based in Dambach-la-ville. The estate spans 14 hectares of vines planted over granite. Leo studied oeneology in Switzerland where he started an appreciation for natural wines. He learned that great wines are the result of good farming. He returned to Alsace and began the conversion to organics and biodynamics. The Virose is Gewurztraminer (one of my skin contact faves) that sees 5 days of skin maceration and aged 8 months on the lees. You have hints of lychee, asian pear, peaches. Along with that you have abundant floral and baking spice notes. Leo is very cost conscious, as you can see on the price tag. Lovely with pork Ramen.

The pink-skinned Gewürztraminer does best in cooler climates, which allow the grapes to develop good balancing acidity. This is a necessary attribute of any...
