Tasting Notes

This wine is where New World meets Old World. Winemaker Mac Forbes has worked hard to create a wine with elegance and balance while using a more natural approach, such as using indigenous yeasts and leaving his wines unfiltered. This Pinot is all-around delicate with ripe red cherries on the nose and palate; it exudes Old World elegance.

Staff Pick Notes

Australia may be synonymous with Shiraz, but cooler climates are being explored and varieties like Pinot Noir are finding their way into the spotlight. The Yarra Valley is cooler than Bordeaux, but slightly warmer than Burgundy, producing Pinot Noirs with a bit more fruit ripeness while still maintaining vibrant acidity. Mac Forbes is a rising star in the Australian winemaking scene, looking for terroir and finding cooler spots in the gradually warming Yarra Valley. His Pinot Noir is unfined, unfiltered and fermented with indigenous yeast. Tart cherry, cranberry and pomegranate aromas and flavors are joined by crushed rose petals and subtle clove and cinnamon spice.

Terroir,...

The vast country leaves lots of room for variation, however, with its many terroirs each yielding distinctively styled wines. The climate of South Australia’s McLaren Vale district is heavily influenced by the ocean; wines here...

Climatically very varied (its higher-altitude vineyards are the coolest in Australia), Victoria is home to the most diverse assortment of vineyards in Australia, with a particular focus on cooler-climate varieties such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Shiraz production tends to be...
