Tasting Notes

Made from--you guessed it--six different Merlot clones, including two rare French ones and a very rare Italian clone grown on the Peirano estate in Lodi. This ripe and toasty red brims with aromas of black cherries, sweet raspberries, vanilla, and cocoa, while supple tannins leave a pleasing and lingering finish.

Staff Pick Notes

It's been several years since a Hollywood movie called "Sideways" put the kibosh on Merlot, causing sales to plummet. Since hitting bottom, Merlot has been working its way back in a slow but regular fashion. This juicy one is from Lodi, CA and is an excellent example of the winemaker's modern style: fresh, fruity, and medium-bodied. The color is medium-light, indicating that it comes from a cooler-climate area. It has spent 12 months in mostly neutral French oak barrels. If you are looking for a wine with more body than a Pinot Noir to go with your Thanksgiving or Christmas turkey dinner with all of the great side dishes, then this is it. And the price is absolutely affordable.
