From a brand that perhaps more than others at the moment has the potential to live up to the true promise of America's new crop of small independent artisanal distillers, comes this truly unique and unexpected whiskey made from hand harvested sorghum grown in eastern Tennessee. The nose is highly aromatic and brimming with notes of brown butter, candied green apple, cinnamon stick, apricot and mandarin that carry over to the palate with the addition of a dry oak spice laden finish. Very impressive.

What is sorghum, you may ask? AKA millet or orshallu, it is defined as a cereal grain plant within the grass family that produces edible, starchy seeds. Often used for animal feed or biofuel, it is gluten free & also suitable for human consumption. I'm from the South & I grew up with sorghum, seeing it grow in fields near my home, watching its long, sweet stalks turned into syrup. I was pretty intrigued when this 100% sorghum spirit hit our shelves and I'm quite impressed with the results. But it's from High Wire Distilling Co., so what did I expect? Banana nut bread is the dominant aroma, but take a sip and you'll find pecans, walnuts, more baking spices and some citrus/stone fruit notes that meld into a charming Southern treat. Y'all know you wanna try it now!
