With reported whiskey stocks of 4, 6 and 8yr old barrels comprising the blend, Jimmy and Eddie still determine what is ready to be bottled by taste, prior to blending. We get a lot of Bourbon drinkers who come in looking for new releases coming out of Kentucky, or by way of Indiana's MGP distillery, but way fewer requests for rye. Jimmy Russell is looking to change that with this new hallmark addition to the Wild Turkey portfolio. A non-chill filtered blend of primarily four, six, and eight-year rye stocks at barrel proof, Rare Breed Rye is made to be a cross-over for anyone wanting to expand their American whiskey collection. Aromas of sweet orange peel, lemon oils, vanilla frosting and caramel blend together with flavors of snappy black pepper, herbal tea, mint, and clove. Despite its higher proof, the mouthfeel is feathery soft but those bold flavors jump out and remain tight-knit on the finish.
