Savagnin "Clos de la Couta Heida," Jean-René Germanier - 2019

Item # 43423 750mL

Clos de la Couta is a respected but long abandoned vineyard in the municipality of Vex in Val d’Hérens with slate based soils. Germanier took over and revitalized this site. This is made from the Savagnin grape planted on terraced vineyards. Heida is the regional name for Savagnin in this part of Switzerland, the Valais.

Staff Pick Notes

Heida, Païen, Savagnin Blanc, this variety goes by several names in the linguistic kaleidoscope of Switzerland, but this grape is most popularly from the French Jura region. Jura does jut into the Confederacy, but its relative fame in the winemaking world lies firmly on the French side. Vin jaune this is certainly not! Far from the oxidative, yeasty, and saline world across the border, this Savagnin example is purely focused on the fruit and soil. Fermented and aged in-tank, this wine shines bright and pure. Once an abandoned vineyard, Clos de la Couta once again makes wine to appease and quench Helvetia's thirst.
