Tasting Notes

A vintage Gaston-Chiquet that's made entirely from Grand Cru Chardonnay vines. Drinking well today but can age further as the mineral structure is present, yet balanced with the floral & fruit aromas. Concentration marks the wines from this grower who is located in the Dizy village of the Marne Valley.

Staff Pick Notes

Yes, value and deliciousness is the name of the game once again and this excellent 2009 blanc de blancs from Gaston Chiquet delivers. The 2009 vintage was originally met with lukewarm praise as the wines were showing on the soft fruit forward side of the spectrum. However, the venerable importer Terry Theise believes that 09s will slim down and they'll be regarded as noteworthy in the long run. I believe you'll experience what he's referring to here in that while there's a lushness to the fruit the wine doesn't lack a mineral frame or precision as well as a sapid and firm cirtusy finish. A champagne for those who like white Burgundy as the bubbles are merely part of the ensemble of the wine rather than a demanding the attention necessary of a solo act.

These winemakers control every...

During a huge popularity surge beginning in the late 1980s, Chardonnay plantings have increased dramatically -- not only in California's wine country, with which the variety is nearly synonymous, but also in Burgundy (its original, Old World home) and just about everywhere else in the winemaking...
