Item # 27402 750mL

A dry Riesling, abundant with apricots and orchard-fresh peaches tickling the senses into a happy German wine stupor. The texture of Künstler's Estate Riesling is florid, with shining acidity, making this an easy, balanced wine for anyone to appreciate. Ideal for anytime with anyone, especially over shrimp and lemongrass soup or sausages. Künstler is consistently one of the best wineries of the Rheingau; it climbed to new heights during the 1990s and maintains a path of excellence.

Staff Pick Notes

Believe it or not, there was a time when wines from the Rheingau were more famous and more expensive than the finest Bordeaux. Known simply as "Hoch" for the main town Hochheim am Main, they were a favorite of Thomas Jefferson and mentioned in Shakespeare. Hochheim am Main is the heart of the Künstler winery, founded in 1946 by Franz Künstler. His son Gunter has been at the helm since 1992 and has farmed their 35 hectares without herbicides ever since. Künstler's wines are consistently superb showing ripe stone fruits (apple & apricot) with a lovely citric lift and streak of minerality. Six months of lees aging lends the body a nice richness. A fine wine indeed, for a mere fraction of the price of Lafite.

They are careful to retain the delightful honeyed, flinty flavors that the best sweet Rieslings have always displayed. Alsace, of...
