Tasting Notes

From a careful selection of the Douro's classic grape varieties, this intense red carries the story of Portugal. Classic and fresh with zippy acidity, this full-bodied wine is like an unfortified Port: intensely ripe with a long finish.

Here's a wine to cheer the soul! Zone A Port grapes undergo a cool fermentation and remain unoaked to yield an incredibly juicy, appealing dry wine whose nose reminds me uncannily of Churchill's vintage port. Grapes are grown right on the banks of the Douro: a privileged location, as much of the actual banks are Unesco-protected sites. Quinto do Popa's "Contas da Terra" shows rich, ripe black cherries, candied plums, blackberry jam, potpourri, hibiscus tea, and pomegranate on the nose. The palate is more restrained, with good acidity and a nice mineral undercurrent. Just what the doctor called for.
