Fruit for this wine is from a single vineyard grown on the hillsides in the most north-easterly portion of the Beqaa Valley at 1,200m altitude. Pale ruby in colour, with aromas of violets and very ripe red berry fruits. Velvety on the palate with fine tannins. An elegant wine that would pair beautifully with duck, poultry or swordfish.

Staff Pick Notes

A delicious Grenache and Mourvèdre blend from our friends at Massaya. Medium-bodied and silky smooth, the wine shows delectable notes of candied dark red fruit, blackcurrants, dark chocolate, and black pepper. The grapes are grown at an altitude of 1200 meters in the Bekaa Valley near the historic city of Baalbek, which is fittingly home to the Temple of Bacchus, the God of Wine himself. This was nicely balanced by good acidity and earthy minerality and it benefited from a light chill. Reminiscent of a Provençal red but still distinctly Lebanese—it was aces alongside grilled pork chops with harissa and Swiss chard. A divine pleasure to sip on.

Grenache

The Grenache grape (a.k.a. Grenache Noir) produces relatively pale, fruity red wines that often stop just short of sweetness. Mourvèdre

Known as Mataro in California and Monastrell in Spain, Mourvèdre can produce bold, tannic, highly alcoholic red wines. They usually show no shortage of fruit as well, and the best examples keep it all in perfect balance. Rhône-style blends are cropping up all over the world, and one of the classic tried-and-true combinations is "GSM," or Grenache-Syrah-Mourvèdre. The "M" contributes focus and fleshy character to blends - but Mourvèdre also shines on its own as a varietal wine.
