For winemaker Dave Phinny at Orin Swift, creating the right alchemy is his primary purpose. The Abstract came about from his love of Grenache and this is a pure expression of this varietal from the Napa climate. Rounded out with a healthy dollop of Petite Sirah and Syrah, this full-bodied red displays abundant ripe summer strawberry and cherry layered over cocoa and spices. The wine was matured in French oak. Serve with upscale burgers with gruyère cheese or gamey lamb shoulder with garlic and herbs.
Orin Swift Cellars was started in 1998 by winemaker David Swift Phinney. Orin Swift wine became very popular very fast thanks to wine such as "The Prisoner" label that Phinney sold in 2013. The "abstract" red is a wine with an intriguing label (as always coming from Orin Swift Cellars), but it will also challenge your palate with its deep and heavy body and complexity. Dense with multi-layers of chocolate, cassis, blueberry, and exotic as well as baking spices. The oak is there, but well integrated to the melting pot of flavors. Best to keep it a few years or longer before popping it open, but if you can't resist I recommend decanting for at least 3 hours.
