Tasting Notes

A Chardonnay from Slovenia that sees 8 days of skin contact and is fermented with native yeast then aged in both steel tanks and old oak barrels. A slightly cloudy hue visibly with a pale amber color. Aromatic, dry, delicious.

Staff Pick Notes

A great wine made with subtle skin contact in the "orange" style. Sanctum is in the Stajerska region (the Slovene name for 'Styria') of Podravje, which is the largest wine growing region of Slovenia. It's a steep terrain in the northeast of the country with vineyards planted in gravel and clay soils. This wine was macerated with the skins for just over a week, imparting a pale straw color. Fermented on the lees for 10 months and then aged in stainless steel and neutral oak. The resulting wine is energetic with some tangy notes to it. Bruised apples, candied lemons, passion fruit are all on the palate. The finish has a slight musky note that is nicely integrated. What is remarkable about this wine is the level of restraint. It is not trying to be anything it's not or capitalize on the orange wine trend. It's just authentically cheerful.
