Perhaps you've seen the video of Stanley Tucci mixing up a Negroni for his wife mid-pandemic? (If not, do yourself a favor). The Negroni is a simple, yet elegant concoction of gin, Campari and red sweet vermouth (although stirred, not shaken, but who cares). At one point he says that if you don't like gin you could use vodka (gasp), to which I would offer, how about whiskey? Which is, of course, a Boulevardier. You can use rye or bourbon, but one of my favorites is Russell's Reserve 10 year bourbon, which provides a rich base of caramel and vanilla. 1.5 oz bourbon .75 oz Campari .75 oz sweet red vermouth Stir over ice, strain into coup. Garnish with lemon or orange. Santé!
