Pussers British Navy Rum

The Pusser's Rum brand was founded in 1979 by distiller Charles Tobias. He managed to secure the recipe for the navy style from the British admiralty, which blended five West Indian rums to make the final product. Pusser's not only represents the first of many navy-style rums now being sold commercially, but the name itself refers to a slang term for a ship's purser (supply officer), responsible for rationing the daily supply of rum to sailors. Although this expression comes in at a lower proof than their Gunpowder version (54.5%), it still manages to show nicely on the palate. There are some funky notes in there in addition to notes of rich molasses, caramelized sugar, and treacle!
