Founded in 1996 the Nastro D'Oro Distillery is located on the golden ribbon of land in this pictaresque part of Italy just as you reach the Campania coast with the island of Capri within sight. For over two decades the distillery has been dedicated to the procurment of the best ingredients for the production of the highest quality, authentic Italian spirits. All of the raw materials used for this amaro were meticulously sourced and harvested on the nearby mount of San Costanzo. The spirit is one of the best balanced amaro we have ever tasted with a seamless integration of flavors that includes spearmint, candy cane, citrus zest, tar, cola and ground spices.
Way, way down to the tip of the Sorrento peninsula, past Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast, there sits the home of Nastro d'Oro. Amaro is frequently ultra-local. Each little sub-region in Italy has a historic style, sometimes more than one. In this case, every herb, bark, fruit or flower that makes this bottle's unique profile is harvested on the slopes of Monte San Constanzo, the largest hill of Massa Lubrense in Campania, one hell of a beautiful sight in an already beautiful place. What's the amaro like? Like the best root beer you've ever had alongside a bundle of freshly crushed mint leaves. Like the smell you'd imagine harvesting a fennel root and the overturned dark earth in your hands. More bitter than sweet, but lightly sweet. I serve it 50/50 with some soda water and lime, and take some time to breath.
