Nosing this blind you'd be forgiven for thinking it was an old vintage Armagnac, but after a few moments the sherry cask comes forward showing off its influence with notes of raisins, hot waffles, worn leather, roasted chestnuts, brown butter, nutmeg and vanilla. Made from local aromatic rice that is malted and distilled in small shochu pot stills.

Sherry cask lovers rejoice! This one brings it! Being a fan of both whiskey and sherry I'm often left wanting more when a product proclaims it's use of ex-sherry cask aging. This Ohishi expression however absolutely delivers all the nutty, salty, dry fruity goodness of a fine Amontillado Sherry! Made of organically grown gohyakumanishi rice and aged as a single cask product this is essentially an uncut barrel aged shochu. On the nose it's sherry all the way with roasted almonds, ash, leather, dried fruits, citrus and pepper. The palate explodes with oily roasted nuts,rich vanilla, orange peel, dried fruits and a beautiful salinity. Grab this bottling (cask 1212) while you can!
