An awesome category bending addition to the burgeoning selection of amari, this unique take from the team in Kansas City takes a single origin roast from local outfit Thou Mayest and combines it with orange, cardamom, vanilla and gentian. A great balance of bittersweet flavors that resonate from start to finish.
This is absolutely one of those products I was skeptical of at first glance, but ended up loving. This collaboration between Kansas City based J. Rieger spirits and local roaster Thou Mayest, who supply a single origin Sumatra roast for the base of the cold brew, definitely leans hard into Amaro over coffee liqueur, and a drier style at that. The botanical profile is comprised of juniper, cardamom, orange rind, star anise, spearmint, gentian, and vanilla, steeped across 10 separate tanks and whiskey barrels before being blended with coffee. In the words of head distiller Nathan Perry, "Caffè Amaro is a pain in the ass to make." But once you open a bottle you'll agree: the perfect balance of bitter to sweet and its unique profile make it 100% worth it.
