Tasting Notes

As to be expected, the angel's share in the tropics is much more dramatic than spirits aged in other more temperate locales. The total amount of rum lost to the heavens from these stocks that were distilled and laid down in 2009 was a whopping 64% at the time of bottling!! Named for Frank Ward, the longtime propietor of the historic distillery that supplied Mount Gay, this is pure rum at its brilliant best. Notes include heaps of grilled tropical fruits, creme brulee, assam tea leaves, buckwheat honey red licorice and warming baking spices. Rich and opulent up front with a dry, spicy finish, this rum is remarkable from start to finish.

Staff Pick Notes

The Mount Gilboa Distillery is a very historic Bajan distillery that has supplied the world with exquisite, and well known rums for more than 300 years. Most of these rums have gone into the Mount Gay brand, however a few bottlings have made their way out of this orbit. This particular bottling was distilled by their last master distiller before being sold into corporate ownership. Frank Ward's swan song of sorts is a triple distilled rum aged entirely in Barbados. The result is an intensely concentrated rum bursting with aromas of charcoal grilled pineapples and bananas, vanilla treacle, clove candies, cinnamon, honey and many more! A historic release from Velier that does not disappoint.
