The Barrel Proof single barrels from this old family brand that we've been able to buy over the past couple of years have been one of the biggest revelations in Bourbon. This is old school, full throttle stuff with a recognizable Wathen's stamp on it.
At full proof and 8yrs old, the nose has plenty of intensity but is a little muted at at 63.1% ABV water goes a long way here opening this whiskey up bringing forth layers of roasted peanuts, dried lavender, apple butter, honey glazed carrots, apricot, Mandarin orange with faint notes of sherry, tobacco and baking spice on the finish.
