Amaro Montenegro, "the liqueur of the virtues," stands as the first Italian herbal liqueur. Born into Mediterranean tradition, it uses a distinct soaking and distillation process, which results in a liqueur that is sweet in taste with a slightly bitter finish.
Here is a delightful almost easy going Amaro. Created in 1885 by Stanislao Cobianchi as homage to the country of Montenegro and its Princess Elena of Montenegro who would marry the future king of Italy. This is not a very bitter Amaro. If you want to test your tolerance of bitter please see Elisir Novasalus cause that stuff is cray cray. If you want a delicious, relaxing digestif Amaro Montenegro should totally be your jimmy jam. Spicy clove and citrus are well integrated with vanilla to balance out this delightful Italian classic Amaro.
