Cocchi Barolo Chinato

Item # 24568 500mL

This Chinato is produced from the world famous Piemonte wine, Barolo, which is infused with quinine bark, rhubarb, and ginger. The aroma is filled with melon, orange rind and rhubarb. Gently spiced, the acidity made me hungry for antipasti and, while traditionally, this is enjoyed after a meal, I have no problem enjoying before or during one.

The most famous grape in Piedmont is the noble Nebbiolo, which makes the long-lived Barolo and Barbaresco. There are plenty of Nebbiolo-based wines that are quite enjoyable in their youth, however, often produced in smaller, lesser-known regions such as Ghemme or Gattinara. Several other Piedmontese grapes make striking and delicious wines: Pelaverga produces light-colored reds with distinctive notes of strawberry, cherry, and pink peppercorn.
