Staff Pick Notes

Benedicte et Stephane Tissot have been stalwarts of high-end production from the Jura, choosing to express their magnificent parcels (Les Bruyeres, La Mailloche, En Barberon) through biodynamic practices to ensure healthy viticulture and to minimize the use of additives. Among their many cuvées comes a Cremant du Jura, made up of primarily Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with small additions of Poulsard and Trousseau (native varietals to Jura). With minimal sulfur use and no dosage, their sparkler comes forth with a richly generous mousse that fills the glass. Mineral driven to its very core, it sports racy acidity and tons of brioche/almond character while having some lemon zest, pear, and grapefruit pith notes. Truly a wonderful alternative to Champagne.

About the Producer

Stéphane and Bénédicte Tissot Montigny-les-Arsures Jura, France How does one start to talk about Stéphane Tissot? Stéphane works biodynamically and has become the creator of many cuvées, each...

Chardonnay

From Champagne to Chablis, it's hard (not to mention unpleasant) to avoid this famous white variety. It is a flexible, eager-to-please grape, responding well to just about anything a winemaker...

Jura

A petite and relatively obscure wine region in eastern France, between Burgundy and the Swiss border. Its geographical isolation has helped it to remain a rare bastion of traditional winemaking techniques, and today it produces some of the most distinctive wines in the world. Reds from the Jura are often light-bodied, earthy, berried, and reminiscent of the village wines of Burgundy (though here they are made of local grapes like Poulsard and Trousseau). The true specialty of the region,...
