A.A. Badenhorst "Secateurs" Chenin Blanc - 2022

Item # 33792 750mL

Winemaker Adi Badenhorst was influenced by the late, great Serge Hochar of Ch. Musar fame. His approach to winemaking is minimalism. This is dry and honeyed with a good dose of chappy minerals. Fermented with native yeasts, it possesses a deep straw color and complexity that you'll enjoy immensely at the table.

Staff Pick Notes

A.A. Badenhorst, "Secateurs" Chenin Blanc 2015

Secateurs refers to a small pair of shears used for pruning. At Badenhorst, secateurs are used pruning the large bushvines, traditional of the region, as well as to pick juicy ripe grapes in the summer. With a minimalist approach to wine making, Adi Badenhorst ferments the grape clusters whole using native yeasts and neutral casks. The 2015 vintage had a particularly dry summer giving the grapes a long ripening period. This resulted in prominent ripe flavors with slightly lower acid. The Chenin Blanc cultivar pairs with seven months lees aging to bring out honey, flint and a supple core of orange blossoms. Enjoy as an apertif, next to an arugula and goat cheese salad or with a well zested filet of white, flaky fish.

It produces just about any type of wine you can think of: ageworthy dessert wines; delicious, honeyed dry whites; sparklers; and even bases for fortified wines and spirits. These days, one of the most exciting stories is in South Africa, where newly adopted winemaking technologies have helped a dedicated group of producers to bring the country's dry...
