A South Australian region lying adjascent to the Adelaide Hills. The climate here offers strong shifts between warm daytime and cool nighttime temperatures. While justifiably famous for its Rieslings, the Shiraz wines from this cooler region are fast becoming some of the most consistent and widely acclaimed in all of Australia. They feature great acidity and a bit more structure than their southern counterparts, feeling tightly wound as opposed to opulent (like much Aussie Shiraz). Fruit in these wines leans toward the red end of the spectrum, with a nuance of mintiness adding freshness, and trademark black pepper notes supplemented with additional black spices such as anise.
