Black Kite Pinot Noir, Kite's Rest Vineyard - 2018

Item # 18553 750mL

Inspired after a bicycle trip through Burgundy, Rebecca and Tom Birdsall jumped at the chance to make their own wines that speak of Sonoma terroir. This comes from 12 acres divided onto 3 plots, the highest at 321 feet in elevation in Redwood's edge. Fruit is hand-picked and the wienes are aged for a year in French oak casks.

Staff Pick Notes

The bird of prey on the label is the black-shouldered Kite or Black Kite as it’s commonly known, both endangered and indigenous to Mendocino and Sonoma counties. Black Kite Cellars have packed 14.5% abv into an incredibly deft and elevated wine with laser focused (like the stare!) fruit flavors, spice, black tea and violet notes, with cedar and toast on a sleek finish. Black Kite have been making wine for twenty years and “appreciate that many of the best wines in the world are produced by family owned wineries that have been around for generations. We are dedicated to the journey, and aspire to making great Pinot Noir for many years”.

California

California makes more wine than any other state in the United States. Not only does the state grow a variety of noble grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, there are also plantings of lesser-known varieties such as Nebbiolo, Roussanne and Mourvèdre to name just a few.
