Staff Pick Notes

Intrigued by this wine, which I had sitting in my wine cave, I decided tonight was the night to crack it open. Duck was on the menu and I was thinking this heavier-than-usual style of Pinot Noir would be a great choice. Oh yes, it was indeed! The nose opens to dark, plush strawberry, interlaced with cranberry and a nuance of French oak. The palate is yummy, with juicy spiced red fruits. A joyful peppery finish rounds off this superbly made Chilean Pinot Noir. Don't let the price point, or the fact you aren't familiar with South American Pinots, put you off. It is a gem of a wine truly worth tucking into sometime soon. Cheers, Stephen W.

Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

Aconcagua

Situated northwest of the Chilean capital, Santiago, the Aconcagua region is famous for its richly textured Chardonnays and, more recently, its distinctive Sauvignon Blancs, Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots and Pinot Noirs. The actual Aconcagua mountain is located in Argentina, near the Chilean border. It is the highest peak in the western hemisphere.

Chile’s friendly, delicious Carmenères are the best example, but Chile is generally one of the most consistent sources of delicious, ready-to-drink, approachable wines. Cabernet Sauvignons from Chile are just as crowd-pleasing as the Carmenères, and keep an eye out for velvety,...
