Made from the Limniona red grape variety in Thessalia which is a region in central Greece. Domaine Zafeirakis represents one of the most exciting new domains of Greece. Nestled in the foothills of Mount Olympus, the soils are full of clay and flint. Winemaker, Christos Zafeirakis has built a winery both in honor and continuation of the 4 generations of winemakers in his family that preceded him.

Staff Pick Notes

Truly a very interesting and delicious wine. The producer, Christos Zafeirakis, went to Milan to study oneology and then moved to Tuscany to gain experience in the field. With this knowledge, he returned to Greece and started to make wine organically. He extended his domain and started planting an indigenous grape variety, Limniona, which is unknown to most. The area where the vineyard is planted used to be a river and as a consequence the soil is sandy and rich with calcium. It's an elegant, balanced, full-bodied wine with a lot of minerality. It's fruity and earthy at the same time with delicate tannins. This is something you would expect from a pricier bottle!
