This Riserva Primitivo is made by the Pasquale Petrera winery and comes from the village of Gioia del Colle. The high elevation of the vineyards and limestone soils contribute to the wine's elegance that is somewhat contradictory for a southern Italian Primitivo. Aged 30 months total in a combination of stainless steel, old Slavonian oak, and then bottle. The tannins are well-tamed and wound into a wild, black plum core. One of those rare Primitivos that will age for up to 20 years. A fine partner to pasta with homemade tomato sauce, grilled fatty fishes, beef, game, or aged cheeses, as well as well herbed tapenade.
