Quarts de Chaume, Vignobles Laffourcade - 2017

Item # 26095 750mL

Quarts de Chaume is a sweet wine affected by the same Botrytis Cinera as on finds in Sauternes, however, the terroir of the Loire Valley and the Chenin Blanc grape yields a sweet wine that is lighter on its feet, more touched by acidity, but equally ageworthy.

Perfect Sweetness

So good I quoted an icon ... "Perfect wine needs no explanation, however exotic it may be. The rules are the same; it smells inviting, invigorates your mouth as it comes in, expands into new dimensions as you hold it on your tongue and lingers sweetly after you swallow." - Hugh Johnson For me, I experienced a gold color, and a discreet aroma of golden raisins. But the taste, oh the taste. It starts with a sexy oily touch and presents a voluptuous body. Then flavors blossom, flavors of subtle honey, golden raisins, ripe apple and I swear I get a essence of fresh butter of cream in the end.... Amazing..... Worthy food = Blue Cheese, Pastries ....

Winemakers in this idyllic location are inevitably influenced by Nicolas Joly, leader of the Biodynamic movement, though not all subscribe to his principles. Pascal Laffourcade is the son of a négociant who bought vines in the Quarts...

Glossary

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.

Chenin Blanc

A versatile grape that is grown worldwide, but is most commonly associated with the Loire, California, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. It produces just about any type of wine you can think of: ageworthy dessert wines; delicious, honeyed dry whites; sparklers; and even bases for fortified wines and spirits. These days, one of the most exciting stories is in South Africa, where newly adopted winemaking technologies have helped a dedicated group of producers to bring the country's dry...
