Staff Pick Notes

Old-vine Auxerrois! You may not know how to pronounce this grape, and it may have the same parentage as Chardonnay, but this wine does come from vines in excess of 35 years of age. Auxerrois originates from the Lorraine region of France, Alsace's neighbor, and has been used instead of Chardonnay in the locality. Producing a more full-bodied, less acidic wine than the more common Pinot Blanc, this variety deserves wider recognition. Domaine Maurice Schoech's is a delicious example. Aromas of peach, orange, white flowers, and white pepper perfume this drier bottling. Pair with fish dishes, poultry, Hunanese cuisine, and all types of cheeses.

Alsatian Auxerrois is used in Crémant d'Alsace, and in...
