The Cotar vineyard sits right on the border between Slovenia and Fruili. This is a family operation run by the Cotar family (pronouced Cho-tar). The wine is a beautiful gold color full of savory aromas and flavors. For fans of dry sherry and wines off the beaten path, this may well be a new favorite and now in a magnum bottle.

Orange wine lovers, if you have not experienced this Slovenian beauty, do not fear—she is not a gold-digging, speech-stealing model, but the cumulative efforts of Branko and Vasja Cotar. This structured, no-sulfur-added, extended skin-contact wine provides exotic spice notes along with starfruit and herbs. Pair with rustic fare, sausages, sardines, or other oily fish. The Karst is a rocky limestone plateau near the sea on the eastern border of Italy. Vitovska is a rare variety native to this area. Though Vitovska vines are hardy, the variety nearly fell to extinction in the late twentieth century. Luckily, the Cotar family chose to work with Vitovska and helped save it. Now the only place you will see it disappearing from is your glass.
