Staff Pick Notes

Pinot Noir is classic, it's the 'girl-next-store' of wine grapes. But the Pinot Noir from Hervé Villemade is like Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas if she was a non-claymation soul. It's quirky and murky. The mouth feel is round and viscous due to the lack of filtration. Crunchy cherry red fruit followed by a haunting parade of hazelnut layered damp, dark earth. It's the Pinot Noir for people who like to take a walk on the spooky side. Tastes like cranberry sunsets on the top of woodsy hills in the middle of December. It's a wonderful piece of the winter night puzzle. Hervé Villemade has been inspired by winemakers likeMarcel Lapierre & Thierry Puzelat and the clean natural wine artistry is apparent.

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.
