When we remember that the Bonded Act was in part put into place all the way back in the 19th Century as a certain guarantee of a benchmark of quality, it makes this achievement for Privateer even more significant. Not only is it a major milestone for this small artisan distiller and a testament to their resilience and quality but rum as a category is notoriously opaque and misunderstood. Rum was arguably the most important spirit if not drink at the founding of the country with a great concentration of producers based in New England.
