An aromatic orange wine made from Rebula, Malvasia and Sauvignonasse. The Rebula sees 10 months skins contact in large oak foudres. The Malvasia and Sauvignonasse see one month skin contact and 8 months on lees in stainless steel. Goriška Brda is the enchanting westernmost region of Slovenia, nestled halfway between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea. The steeply terraced vineyards are treacherous to work, but the wines are stunning, mineral-driven and excellent with food.

Orange Wine (Skin Contact)

Orange wine is made by using white wine grapes, which are pressed and left in contact with the skins, seeds, and stems for an extended period of time, similar to how red wine is made.

This prolonged maceration extracts color, tannins, and phenols, giving the wine a darker, sometimes orange color. It also produces a wine with more structure and intense flavor.

Maceration times can vary between a few hours to many months, with longer contact giving more color and extraction.

This is a beautiful, fresher-style of skin-macerated white wine (orange wine). The Goriška Brda region of Slovenia lies on the western edge of the country along the jigsaw-like border with Italy. The blend of grapes used for this wine are 40% Ribolla Gialla (Rebula), 30% Malvasia, 30% Sauvignonasse (Fruilano) which sees ten and one month of skin contact respectively. The is made in a fresh and fruit forward style of orange wine ready for crushable drinking. Bright notes of ripe apricots, quince and dried mango counterbalance savory notes of dried thyme and a chalky minerality. Peach and walnut-skin like tannins offer a complexity and pleasant bitterness that plays well off the bright, tangerine peel acidity. Just a really delicious wine that you can pair with a variety of lighter fare.
