Côte-Rôtie, Bernard Burgaud - 2018

Item # 45173 750mL

A proponent of the “one-estate, one-wine” principle, Burgaud operates in a traditional style. His Côte-Rôtie is made from a blend of grapes from all his vines, which include holdings in the Le Champin, Leyat, Côte Blonde, Les Moutonnes & Fongeant lieux-dits.

Staff Pick Notes

A dense red wine from the Northern Rhône. Here, for the most part, Syrah is planted. The southeast slopes where the vines are planted, produce powerful and elegant wines. Côte-Rôtie is one of the most respected wine areas in France and the world. Sip to enjoy this wine's surprising freshness. On the nose you'll notice violet; on the palate you'll find leather, spices, and black cherries. This wine is silky with very well integrated tannins and a balanced minerality. It can be enjoyed now, but could also age, evolve, and mature even more. Incredible!

Prestigious northern Rhône appellations include Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, and St.-Joseph. In the southern Rhône, look to the village...

Let it never be said, however, that Shiraz and Syrah are the same thing: the region in which the grape is grown determines much about the flavor of the wine it will produce. Typically, New World Shiraz yields bigger, fruitier wines than the the peppery Syrahs...
