Mal Bien Felipe & Ageo Cortes Madrecuixe Mezcal - 2023

Item # 47882 750mL

One of a trio of recent batches from one of the royal families of mezcal. There are certain producers where the standing rule is if you see bottles of their batches, buy them. The Ramos's are one example. A 2023 batch from early spring made in the ancestral style this bottling proves again and again with each sip madrecuixes seemingly boundless capacity to delight with beautiful flavors that skew both floral and fruity for this batch evoking sunny summertime at its peak.

Staff Pick Notes

Victor & Emanuel Ramos, father and son, consistently produce some of the most iconic agave spirits within Miahuatlán that I've ever encountered. Working at their current palenque for the past 20 years, immaculately well maintained with sprawling agave fields, they work entirely with the A. Karwinskiis native to their area and are well sourced by many mezcal brands, most particularly Mal Bien. This batch of Madrecuixe is just further proof to their outstanding reputation. Notes of sugar cane, lemon zest, alluring florals, chamomile tea, and an almost rock candy like quality. All about nuance and complexity versus the abrasive, brash notes generally associated with mezcal, any fan of mezcal or agave spirits would do well to have a batch or two from Victor and Emanuel.
