Our latest in this series of hand-picked Astor Select single barrels from the great Russell's Reserve. Distilled on January 24th, 2017 and aged for just under 9 years the barrel was dumped on November 8th, 2025 after we hand selected it. A far cry from the more common sweet ripe and softer orchard fruit profiles that mark many Russell's bourbon offerings, this unique cask profile leans into smoke, spice and more complex savoury flavors with just the right touch of baked carmelized pears, toffee notes of preserved cherries to back it all up. The higher proof really shows its worth on the palate. Another Camp Nelson gem aged on Rickhouse D on the 4th floor this is officially barrel number 25-1145 with a total yield of 168 bottles.

Staff Pick Notes

So here’s an Astor pick that you simply cannot refuse. The juice has spent 8 years in Russel’s Reserve barrel 1145 in Rickhouse D of the esteemed Camp Nelson campus. Camp Nelson is situated between woods that border the Kentucky River. It’s a temperate environment that is perfect for years of aging. I appreciate that as those years have helped develop awesome fruit flavors that I rarely encounter in Bourbon. Notes of figs, black cherries, and apple sauce mix with traditional vanilla and toffee notes. The finish is very long where cinnamon baking spice reveals itself. We set a great price so how can you lose?
