Domaine Robert Sérol

Côte Roannaise, Loire, France

Renaison, Côtes Roannaise, Loire Valley, France This family domaine has been passed from father to son for over five generations. Each successor imparts his own ideas and adapts the process to his own era. Robert Sérol took over the family property - just two hectares of vines - in 1964, at the very moment many of his neighbors were selling their vineyards. Persistent and passionate, he decided to pursue viticulture despite the challenges. With his wife, Marie-Thérèse, they enlarged their domaine and obtained the Appellation classification of Côte Roannaise. Robert’s son Stéphane took the reins in 2000. Respectful of his terroir and a lover of the vine, he enlarged the domaine once more and extended the range of the family’s red wines. After modernizing some aspects of the operation, he and his partner Carrie now highlight first and foremost the environment and selection of terroirs. Twenty-four hectares of 5- to 80-year-old vines are certified Terra Vitis, which is durable, sustainable viticulture and reveal a range of reds and rosés that celebrate the different personalities of Gamay. The vineyards of the Côte Roannaise are situated in the foothills of France’s Massif Central, where granite and volcanic porphyre dominate the soils. The Sérol’s vineyards are composed of sand and granite, exposed south by southeast, and situated at an altitude of 450 meters. The family has invested much time and energy in the promotion of this small appellation.
