Leydet-Valentin

St.-Émilion, Bordeaux, France

St. Émilion, Bordeaux, France At the age of 33, Frédéric Leydet runs these family estates which span two appellations: Pomerol and Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. Passed down through the generations, Frederic’s father Bernard Leydet began running these estates in 1962 with only a few hectares. By the time of his death in 2005 they had each grown substantially, 8.87 hectares in Saint Emilion and 7.78 hectares in Pomerol. Frédéric was born and raised at the property and after studying vine growing and oenology came to work at the estate in 1996. Now he is 100% in charge of the two estates and since 1996 he introduced new practices like pruning and green harvesting. Ageing is done on lies in oak barrels (1/3 new) with no racking, a strict minimum of sulfur and no fining. Frédéric has only one goal in mind: to achieve the total expression of the terroir.
