Viticulture was introduced to Portugal during Roman times, and exporting really began via trade with England. For a country of modest size, the variety of grapes and styles of wine is vast. From the fortified sweet wines of the Douro and Madeira, to the mineral and structured whites from Pico Island, Portugal has a wine for every taste. From the sands of Colares to the pleateau of the Dão, the diversity is nearly endless.
