A classic French Aperitif from a recipe dating back to 1885. It is made with a secret recipe of herbs, bittered with Gentiane root from the Auvergne region and mellowed in Limousin oak The result is a bittersweet, earthy, a touch vegetal with notes of anise and citrus. It is traditionally enjoyed over ice with a twist of lemon but can be used in a variety of cocktails.
Obscure gentian liqueur or cocktail secret ingredient? Alone, Salers Aperitif is enough to make your mouth pucker. Stir it over ice with equal parts gin and bianco vermouth and you have a Blond Negroni. Swap that gin for mezcal, I like to use Fidencio for mixing, and you have a superb variation of the cocktail with a smoky depth.
