Gewurztraminer, Kientzler - 2017

Item # 31343 750mL

From a small-family-run estate, this Gewurztraminer is aromatic and lush on the palate. Add to that a dash of sweet and you have a wine that can both double as an apéritif wine and a dinner wine with assertively spiced dishes.

Staff Pick Notes

We tested the Kientzler Gewurztraminer at our practice holiday dinner for this year. I found it to be one of the best wines among the collection of classy Crus to match up with the food. It is obvious that this aromatic grape has been nurtured to to be the best in Alsace. It is full-bodied with an exotic and slightly sweet mid-palate and yet has a very likeable hint of bitterness on the finish. A beautiful food wine to have throughout the meal, starting with the finger foods, appetizers, and especially the main courses and sides. It has the right amount of complimentary acid. Gewurz is grown in other countries and terroirs, but they seem to be experimental crops with different bodies, flavors, and uses. The 2012 vintage, with its great structure, will make a wonderful impact on your holiday meals this year.

The pink-skinned Gewürztraminer does best in cooler climates, which allow the grapes to develop good balancing acidity. This is a necessary attribute of any...
