Cappelletti Amaro Sfumato Rabarbaro Liq.

Item # 34782 750mL

This special rhubarb-based bitter amaro from the wonderful Cappelletti family exhibits a deft balance of bright and earthy, smoky flavors as the name suggests. The Cappellettis have been producing their Sfumato for nearly a century with the unique Chinese rhubarb, grown in Trentino as a base for flavors that include candied orange peels, celery salt, flint, pickled herbs, green strawberries, and raspberry preserves. The entry is rich and fruity. Cleans up nicely on the mid-palate on its way to a dry, bitter, long finish.

Staff Pick Notes

Sfumato, a term commonly used to refer to the act of blending utilized in Renaissance style paintings to add a smoky cloudy nature, but also a wonderful term to quantify the character of this Rabarbaro style Amaro. The Chinese rhubarb and candied orange peels offer bright fruit followed by a wonderfully subtle smoky and herbaceous finish, blurring the lines of what you might expect from an amaro. Great for sipping on its own but also bold enough to swap in as an alternative for Vermouth in your Manhattan to add a wonderful twist on the classic.
