Staff Pick Notes

This is one of those barely-orange orange wines, where lighter skin contact just serves to enhance the wine's body and texture. The bottle in front of you is a single vineyard offering from family owned Aussie vintner Koerner Wine, whose commitment to impeccable farming lets them make low intervention wines with minimal sulfur (Gullyview Vineyard has been without chemicals or irrigation for close to 40yrs.) In the glass white flower, white peach, grapefruit, and orange rind come out, with a little tea tannin leading into a saline finish. Refreshing acidity keeps everything steady. While it will pour a bit cloudy, this is made in a very clean, accessible style. The wine sees no oak, just stainless steel for aging and fermentation. It's an easy food pairing overall. Try with fennel, fava beans, raw oysters, or seafood pasta.

The climate of South Australia’s McLaren Vale district is heavily influenced by the ocean; wines here typically show savory notes of olive and spice on the nose and deep berry flavors on the palate....
