Cahors "Extra Libre" Vin Naturel, Ch. du Cèdre - 2019

Item # 44957 750mL

The red wines of the Cahors area are fuller in body due to the nature of the grapes, Malbec and Merlot in this bottling. Aged for a few years in older French barrels. No sulphites were added to this bottle resulting in the bright fruit character on the palate. Bring out the saucisson.

Staff Pick Notes

It's a great wine from the Cahors region in Southwest France. With 90% Malbec, it's a round and bold wine. A touch of Tannat and Merlot grapes add smoothness . Château de Cèdre has been producing wine for a while but since 2012 all the production is certified organic. You can smell and taste black fruit, such as blueberries, blackberries and dark plums followed by spices and cracked peppercorn. Tannins and acidity and alcohol are well-balanced together. At first, when you open the bottle, this wine may taste slightly harsh, so I suggest to decant it and let it breathe for a little bit. It's a versatile wine that, in my opinion, can be paired with different kinds of food, with both white and red meat.

As the grape can be quite difficult to cultivate, it has become far less popular over the years, even in its Bordeaux home. Its South American renaissance has ensured, however, that...
