This is a true Alpine wine that sings of its place of origin. These steep hills and mountains are ideal for grazing herds, and also for the production of light-bodied red wines. A blend of Nebbiolo and Freisa, this bottle gives delicious brambly notes on the nose, as well as dark, fleshy blackberries and cherries. Imagine the elegance of a Barbaresco combined with the airiness of a Pinot Noir. The tannins are very approachable and the wine makes a perfect accompaniment to many of the local cheeses from Vallée d'Aoste.

Staff Pick Notes

Nestled in the Alps of northwestern Italy lies the hills of the Valle D'Aosta. Absorbing warmth during sunny days, the soils are able to insulate vines in the much cooler evenings. The steep, terraced slopes make for good solar retention as well as ease in maintenance and picking. This is a pristine environment to grow the celebrated variety of Nebbiolo. While only 1 hour North of the Piedmont DOCG, this expression of Nebbiolo is so very different. Elegant and perfumed with a vibrant acidity and aromatic intensity that comes from the higher elevation. Bright red cherry and raspberry fruit balance with the more delicate notes of rose and alpine herbs. The earthen quality of crushed rock is smooth and draws a great parody to the hard tannin many expect in Nebbiolo. Pair this bottle with a cheese plate or a veal cutlet and arugula.
