Tasting Notes

This is not your typical inky, tannic expression of the Baga grape. Instead, you'll find this light red wine to have a very fruity character with freshness and floral notes. The wine fermented in stainless steel tank with carbonic maceration. After undergoing malolactic fermentation the wine is bottled unfiltered. Best enjoyed lightly chilled.

I could say this isn't a typical Baga, but I don't think people have too much experience with Baga so what does that really tell you? Here's what you should know: this is a 12%abv, unusual red being made by one of Portugal's most respected winemakers from organically farmed 80-100yr old vines. A departure from their legendary Port, it's an easy drinking table wine fermented with wild yeasts and no sulphur during the carbonic, stainless steel fermentation. Pale, energetic, lightly funky, and very juicy, with aromas of red fruits and Mediterranean scrubland coming together on the nose. Unlike a lot of natural wines in this style it does undergo some malolactic, and the acidity is perfectly balanced. Dangerously easy to drink. And you get all of that in a 1L for under $20. Serve it with a nice chill!

A red grape that is mostly associated with central Portugal's Bairrada region, often made into rosé. Varietal wines made from Baga are generally dark and quite tannic: the best vintages produce truly age-worthy reds.
