Tasting Notes

The Kir Yianni estate, located in Northwestern Greece, was founded in the mid-1990s and named by the original founders of Boutari. The Ramnista is made from the local variety Xinomavro. It shows black pepper spice and bright cherry fruit. This wine finishes with a vanilla toastiness. A bold Greek red wine with plenty of aging potential.

Staff Pick Notes

This wine hails from Naoussa, situated on the slopes of Mt. Vermio. It is arguably the most impressive appellation in northern Greece and Xinomavro (Ksee-NO-mah-vro) its noble grape. Due to its high acid/tannic makeup, Xinomavro has been called the Nebbiolo of Greece and, indeed, with sufficient age, can match its Italian counterpart pound for pound with tantalizing aromas. Ramnista is heady with black plums, leather, olives and savory herbs. The tannins unwind after some time in the glass. This wine is drinking well today, but if you have the patience to hold it for a few more years it will pay dividends.
