Hans Reisetbauer, Austria's most celebrated distiller of eau de vie, has brought his skill and meticulousness to perfectly balance 27 different botanicals from no fewer than 10 different countries in one bottle. The end result is an elegant spirit that would convert even the most anti-gin campaigners. The nose boasts of fresh-ground pepper, juniper, and a balance of fresh and dried herbs. The palate adds to its complexity, with fresh juniper (as expected) but also with hints of orange peel and baking spice. Only produced once a year, between February and May, Reisetbauer takes pride in producing small batches and annual vintages that will have you coming back year after year. Perfectly enjoyable over an ice cube or two.
