Half-Bottle of Rochelt Muscat Grape Eau de Vie - 2006

Item # 35995 375mL

A now seemingly ubiquitous presence, muscat is one of the oldest grape varieties in cultivation. With origins in the Near East it was introduced to Europe by the Phoenicians and Greeks before spreading further throughout the Roman empire. For this exceptional eau de vie, grapes grown in the Burgenland of Austria are harvested by hand, cleaned, screened and de-stemmed before being mashed for fermentation. Notes include green spring fruits, jasmine, quince, pears, coconut, lavender, fresh spice and peppercorns. Aged twelve years in an open air cellar in glass demijohns prior to bottling.

Staff Pick Notes

Alexander Rainer is the lead distiller and head of Rochelt, having learned the art from Founder Gunter Rochelt. The mesmerizing spirit in these bottles leave you breathless. Yes, I can give appropriate tasting notes of grapes, ginger, lavender, rosemary and cracked black pepper. But Somehow, the deeper qualities from this kind of spirit cannot be defined by simple aromatics or taste. Rochelt Brandies are a spiritual experience. The finish goes forever, lingering to such a length that you may question where palate ends and sense memory begins.
